Can You Copy Trade on Topstep
Yes. Topstep accounts trade on TopstepX, which is Topstep’s platform built on the ProjectX API, and Tradecopia connects through that. Once connected, you can copy trades across several Topstep evaluation and funded accounts from a single leader.
Before you connect, confirm that Topstep permits copy trading and third party platforms on your account type. Prop firms set their own rules on this, and it is your responsibility to check. Copying is a tool. Staying inside the firm’s rules is on you.
How to Copy Trade Across Topstep Accounts, Step by Step
The setup mirrors any other Tradecopia copy group.
- Add your Topstep account in Tradecopia as a TopstepX connection, and confirm it shows Connected.
- Open the Copy Trade tab and add a new trading group.
- Drag one Topstep account into the leader slot. This is the account you trade on by hand.
- Drag your other Topstep accounts into the follower slots.
- Set a quantity multiplier for each follower, either 0.5, 1, or 2, so each account takes half, the same, or double the leader’s size.
- Enable the group, then trade the leader as normal. Tradecopia mirrors each fill to the followers in real time.
Keep the desktop app running the whole time you trade. Tradecopia copies trades it sees live, so a trade placed while the app is closed or still reconnecting cannot be copied afterward. To get started, see Tradecopia pricing and the TopstepX trade copier page.
Topstep’s Rules and How They Interact With Copying
This is the part that matters most when you copy. When you mirror one trade to several Topstep accounts, you are not just multiplying the trade. You are multiplying the rule exposure. For Topstep’s current numbers, check the Topstep prop firm page, since the exact figures change over time.
Trailing drawdown. Topstep accounts use a drawdown level that trails your account’s peak balance. Because followers copy the leader, a losing run hits every account in the group at the same time, and each account’s trailing level moves together.
Daily loss limit. Topstep pauses trading for the day when an account hits its daily loss limit. Each follower carries its own limit, so a bad day copied across accounts can pause several of them. A follower on a 2 multiplier reaches its daily limit faster than the leader does.
Consistency rule. Topstep’s consistency rule keeps any single day from making up too large a share of your total profit. When you copy, a single strong day lands on every account at once, so you have to keep consistency in view on each account, not just the leader.
Minimum trading days. Each account needs its own qualifying trading days. Confirm each account is meeting its own requirement rather than assuming the leader’s days cover all of them.
Scaling and contract limits. Each account has its own maximum contract size at each stage. Use the follower multipliers to keep every account within its own limit.
How Tradecopia Helps You Stay Disciplined
Tradecopia gives you tools that make copying across Topstep accounts easier to manage, but the discipline stays with you.
Per-account quantity multipliers let you size each follower to its own account rather than forcing every account to trade the same size. That is the main lever for keeping smaller accounts inside their limits while a larger leader trades normally.
Distance to Drawdown tracking shows how much room each account has before its trailing level. Read this as visibility, not as an automatic stop. Daily profit and loss are synced from the broker so you can see where each account stands on the day. This is awareness, not enforcement.
Be clear on one point. Tradecopia’s trailing drawdown display is there to keep you informed, and it is not a live guardrail that closes trades to protect an account. You still manage entries and exits.
A Worked Example, One Leader and Two Evaluations
Say you hold one funded Topstep account and two evaluation accounts you are still trying to pass. You set the funded account as the leader and add both evaluations as followers. You put each evaluation on a 1 multiplier so they take the same size as the leader.
You place one trade on the funded account. The same entry copies to both evaluations a moment later, and the same exit follows when you close. Three accounts, one decision. If that trade is a winner, all three move up together. If it is a loser, all three take the hit together, and each account’s daily loss and trailing drawdown move at the same time.
That shared outcome is the whole point to understand. Copying does not spread risk across accounts, it applies the same risk to each one. This is why sizing followers with the multiplier matters. A smaller evaluation account might run better on a 0.5 multiplier so it stays inside its own daily limit while the leader trades full size.
